The Art of the Arrangement: Gao Chengyu Performs Tárrega’s “La Paloma”

While the haunting melody of “La Paloma” was originally composed by Sebastián Iradier, it was the legendary Francisco Tárrega who elevated it into a cornerstone of the classical guitar literature. Tárrega’s arrangement is a study in lyrical phrasing and rhythmic precision—a true test of both the player’s artistry and the instrument’s capabilities.

In our latest featured video, guitarist Gao Chengyu delivers a poignant rendition of this masterpiece. Performing on the Gufra Custom UD, Gao demonstrates how our modern Double Top construction provides the necessary headroom and tonal colors to breathe new life into this 19th-century arrangement.

The Gufra UD’s ability to sustain the singing trebles of Tárrega’s melodic lines while maintaining the rhythmic clarity of the Habanera bass is a testament to our pursuit of “Sheer Plucking Pleasure.”
