About Gufra

Founded in 2018. Built by China’s finest classical guitar makers.

Gufra was born from a simple belief: that a great guitar is not defined by stories or packaging, but by how it responds under the fingers. By the clarity of each note. By the quiet confidence it gives the player, night after night.

Our name comes from an Arabic word meaning “the amount of water one can hold in two hands.” It speaks to focus, restraint, and a reverence for what is essential. To us, making guitars is not about excess—it is about pouring all we have into the craft itself, leaving nothing more to say.

The workshop

Every Gufra guitar begins here, in the same facility that produces many of China’s most respected classical instruments. This is not a factory in the conventional sense, but a place where generations of luthiers have refined their understanding of wood, resonance, and touch.

You will not find automation or assembly lines here. What you will find are skilled hands, precise tools, and a patience that has been cultivated over decades. Each instrument is built with an attention to detail that can only be achieved when time is not the enemy, but the partner.

The philosophy

We do not chase trends. We do not manufacture stories.

Our pursuit is quieter: to make each new model better than the last. To question every assumption—panel thickness, bracing angle, neck profile—and to listen carefully to the answers. This is why our Concert Series, from the UD to the new P800, has earned the trust of guitarists in China and beyond. Not because we claim to be the best, but because we refuse to be satisfied.

The evolution

In 2019, our UF model received the Gold Prize at the Shanghai Montoya Cup Guitar Making Competition—a recognition that affirmed our direction. Since then, we have continued to explore the boundaries of what a production guitar can achieve.

The P800 represents 635 days of this ongoing inquiry. It is not a handmade instrument, yet it embodies the same rigor, the same willingness to revise and refine, that defines the luthier’s bench. It is proof that thoughtful design and uncompromising standards need not be reserved for the few.

Today and beyond

We remain a small team. We produce no more instruments than we can give our full attention to. Our collaborations—whether with emerging talents or established concert artists—are built not on contracts, but on mutual respect for the work itself.

There is no grand narrative here. Only the quiet conviction that a well-made guitar, in the hands of someone who loves music, is enough.

If you share that conviction, we would be honored to have you among the growing number of players who have made Gufra their own.
